This year's District 7980 Conference in Sturbridge, MA brought special honors to one of Derby/Shelton Rotary Club's special people - Ernie Luise. A past District Governor as well as a Past President of the local Club, Ernie was presented with the Rotary International Service Above Self Award by Past RI Vice President Abe Gordon. In addition to Ernie's very special award, the Derby-Shelton Rotary Club received the following honors: The Rotary International Presidential Citation 2010 - 2011 from President Ray Klingsmith for significant achievement in Building Communities - Bridging Continents Recognitions on behalf of RI Director Ken Grabeau Zone 32 Literacy Award for participating in programs and projects that promote literacy and educational opportunities for all: 4-Way Test Speech contest Dictionary Project Connecticut Loves to Read Scholarships to Derby and Shelton High School students Computers to St. Martin de Porres school in New Haven and Project Amigo in Mexico Zone 32 Community Service Award for conducting projects that are sustainable, visible, accessible and relevant to the community: Sponsoring a new EarlyAct club at St. Martin de Porres School in New Haven Send students to RYLA Amber Alert Operation Warm Shelton Day Salt/Sand buckets for seniors Dictionary Project Bowl-to-Benefit Victims of Family Violence
