The Derby/Shelton Rotary Club made a major commitment to the health of the
community with the presentation of a check for $10,000 to Griffin Hospital
to support the capital campaign for the hospital's sparkling new Center for
Cancer Care. The new Cancer Center is the center piece of a $33,000,000
project that also includes renovations to the hospital's emergency room. In
order to build the facility, the Hospital had to embark on the most
ambitious public capital campaign in its history seeking $5.5 million in
community support. They currently are closing in on the total and need to
match a $500,000 challenge grant from the Kresge Foundation by July to reach
their goal.
The Derby/Shelton Rotary contribution is
helping to fund one of the "Special Procedure" rooms in the new facility,
and it will eventually feature the Rotary logo and name. Rotary is proud to
be an active participant in this important community project which is
especially fitting as Griffin celebrates its 100th anniversary as the
Valley's community hospital. Ironically, on the same day that Rotary was
presenting its check, the hospital was named as one of America's
"100 Best Companies to Work For" - 10th straight year! Not a bad day's
work!
